A series of tree planting ceremonies were held in 8 locations in the Province of Brescia, Italy and this is one of them. Bienno is a small medieval town, it is a two-hour drive from the city of Brescia passed Lake Iseo. Italy’s first UNESCO World Heritage site, Parco nazionale delle incisioni rupestri di Naquane, is situated near the town and the town itself is renowned for its iron goods and fresh water. Town’s population has been slowly increasing in recent years due to immigrants. Planting Ceremony / “E. Fermi” High School

A series of tree planting ceremonies were held in 8 locations in the Province of Brescia, Italy and this is one of them. The tree was planted at “E. Fermi” Salo municipal high school, which is surrounded by beautiful nature and looks down Lake Garda. When Mr Massimo Sgarbi, English teacher of the school, participated in “the Peace Procession,” he met Mr Francesco Foletti from Cansorzio Travolo Della Pace Franciacorta – Monte Orfano, which supports the kaki tree planting in the Province of Brescia, and was informed of the project. Planting Ceremony / Infanzia Nursery School

A series of tree planting ceremonies were held in 8 locations in the Province of Brescia, Italy and this is one of them. In the afternoon of the 25th, we were welcomed by local children of Vallio Terme, a small mountain town. The venue was prepared with persimmon colored balloons, a welcome board written in Japanese and handmade persimmon fruits and provided a relaxed atmosphere of the town. A series of tree planting ceremonies were held in 8 locations in March 2010 in the Province of Brescia, Italy, and this was one of them. In the afternoon of 24 March, the tree planting ceremony was held at Martiri di Piazza Loggia Primary School. The school is located at the foot of the mountain in the town of Collebeato. The kaki tree was planted in just about the center of the schoolyard, which was rich in nature, and a beautiful silver plate was attached. Planting Ceremony / Fondazione Don Angelo Colombo

A series of tree planting ceremonies were held in 8 locations in March 2010 in the Province of Brescia, Italy, and this was one of them. Fondazione Don Angelo Colombo, the senior care home in Travagliato, had applied for the project and in the morning of 24 March, the tree planting ceremony was held in the garden of the care home. About 250 children from neighboring kindergarten, primary and middle schools participated in the ceremony, and children and the elderly were enjoying each other’s company. Planting Ceremony / Istituto Comprensivo Statale di Trenzano

A series of tree planting ceremonies were held in 8 locations in March 2010 in the Province of Brescia, Italy, and this was one of them. In the morning of 24 March, under the sunny sky, the tree planting ceremony was held at the Istituto Comprensivo Statale di Trenzano and was a very big event. On the stage, guests such as Trenzano mayor, the school principal and the Kaki Tree Project Executive Committee members were seated and they enjoyed watching performances by all students of the school. Planting Ceremony / Park Station Arcobaleno

A series of tree planting ceremonies were held in 8 locations in March 2010 in the Province of Brescia, Italy, and this was one of them. Although the planting itself will take place in the Park Station Arcobaleno, the tree planting ceremony was held at Maria Rosaria Cassarino Junior High School to plant the tree temporarily in a bigger pot before the actual planting takes place in May. Planting Ceremony / Mytham Primary School

An artist who attended the tree planting ceremony on 11th of September 2006 at the Puerto Rico Museum of Contemporary Art wrote about the kaki tree in a letter to his sister, who lives in Bolton, England, and then this lady had proposed to the Bolton Interfaith Council to plant the kaki tree in Bolton. The Bolton Interfaith Council is an organization which promotes peace, mutual understanding and harmony between the people of different faith groups in Bolton. Planting Ceremony / Fylingdales Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School

Mr Jonathan Adamson, who initiated the planting at Edgerton Cemetery on 26th March 2006, applied for another planting. Mr Adamson has been promoting the project in the area where he lives since the first planting in 2006 and has sent a number of letters introducing the Kaki Tree Project to more than a dozen neighboring schools and churches. Two places among those have expressed their keen interest in the project and the planting finally took place at Fylingdales Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School. Planting Ceremony / Terahara Elementary School

Although two kaki trees were planted at Toride Daini Junior High School on 20th February 2004, one of them almost died. Mr and Mrs Tokuura, then PTA members, took a great care of the tree for 5 years at home and wonderfully revived the tree. It was their wish to plant this tree at an elementary school, which led to the planting at neighboring Terahara Elementary School. Mrs. Pieranna Venturell, mayor of the city of Gussago, signed a proposal for a public appeal for support for Hiroshima and Nagasaki in November 2008 and the city also supported a campaign “Future without nuclear weapons” from September 2007 until March 2008, which collected more than 60,000 signatures in Italy. The mayor serves as the chairperson of the “Council for peace and solidarity” of the city as well. Ristorante “Castello Malvezzi” is a very famous restaurant situated in the suburbs of Brescia. Ms. Enrica Bortolazzi, manager of the restaurant, took part in the tree planting ceremony held in the province of Brescia in 2008 and realized that this is a very meaningful project to convey the message of peace and to connect people or with younger generation. Planting Ceremony / Ushiku 3rd Junior High School

The tree planting at Ushiku 3rd Junior High School was realized because a city council member of Ushiku learned about the project when it took place at Toride Second Junior High School in the neighboring city and introduced the project to the city’s education board. Ushiku-City dispatches representatives of students from junior high schools in the city to Hiroshima as peace missionary. Planting Ceremony / The Bernard Buffet Museum

The Bernard Buffet Museum in Shizuoka Prefecture is located on the Clematis no Oka (Hill of Clematis) and also close to the Vangi Sculpture Garden Museum. The museum has a Children’s Museum and not only families from the surrounding area but also families from the Kanto region make a little trip to visit here.
