Exhibition by 『Revive Time』 Kaki Tree Project Executive Committee
Echigo-tsumari Art Triennale is an art exhibition held once in every three years that is set in the entire region of Echigo-tsumari. The “Revive Time” Kaki Tree Project introduced its past activities in an old private house in Matudai-machi, which was used as an exhibition site called “Kaki-an.” Since the owner of the house always wanted to make the house a community where local people can gather, so he(she?) has already remodeled it and turned it into a house in good living condition with an open hearth. At a briefing session on the Kaki Tree Project held prior to the exhibition, the owner kindly offered the house as the exhibition site and accommodation facility during the exhibition period because he (she?) thought the house would be perfect for the project.
The executive committee members lived in the house of teacher Keiko Tomizawa, which is located near Kaki-an, and introduced the project and sought new applications for tree planting together with local people as well as junior high school and high school students. There visitors could see the project’s activity log and archive footage, and a few workshops were held as well. For this exhibition, questionnaires were sent out to children at the planting sites all over the world who had participated in the project and messages from these children were also displayed. The “Kaki-an” served as a cafe three times a week during the exhibition period and offered coffee, tea and handmade sweets, so locals and visitors of the exhibition had a nice relaxing place together.
This exhibition prompted the planting of persimmon tree in Tahei district of Matsudai-machi on 10th March 2001, in the following year. On the 10th anniversary of the tree planting in 2011, they plan to get together under the tree to celebrate.
