Liceo Scientifico Statale Augusto Righi applied for planting in remembrance of a student named Lorenzo, who died in August 2011.
The school building which holds about 1,000 students is actually located in a different place. However, the tree planting ceremony took place in the front yard of the early 20th century building.
In the building, they aired images of the late student, and hung many messages from the ceiling with thread.
After the school principal and an art teacher made speeches, students who wore the same white shirts read poems and introduced one act of the Greek tragedy during cello performance. They also introduced the seven benefits of a kaki tree that handed down in China. These remarkable benefits are: 1) it lives long, 2) it provides a lot of shades, 3) it does not invite birds to nest, 4) it does not invite insects, 5) it provides beautifully colored autumn leaves by frost, 6) it provides nice fruit and 7) it provides fallen leaves that are rich in nutrients and big. Then, the students performed singing followed by speeches by Mr. Francesco Foletti and Dr. Ebinuma.
Each student took turns putting soil over the tree roots at the planting.
Finally, they put an orange ribbon on the tree.
The Kaki Furoshiki was presented to the family of the deceased and Lorenzo’s father offered a few words.
We pray for the repose of Lorenzo’s soul.
