A series of tree planting ceremonies were held in 8 locations in March 2010 in the Province of Brescia, Italy, and this was one of them. In the morning of 24 March, under the sunny sky, the tree planting ceremony was held at the Istituto Comprensivo Statale di Trenzano and was a very big event. On the stage, guests such as Trenzano mayor, the school principal and the Kaki Tree Project Executive Committee members were seated and they enjoyed watching performances by all students of the school. A series of tree planting ceremonies were held in 8 locations in March 2010 in the Province of Brescia, Italy, and this was one of them. Although the planting itself will take place in the Park Station Arcobaleno, the tree planting ceremony was held at Maria Rosaria Cassarino Junior High School to plant the tree temporarily in a bigger pot before the actual planting takes place in May. An artist who attended the tree planting ceremony on 11th of September 2006 at the　Puerto Rico Museum of Contemporary Art wrote about the kaki tree in a letter to his sister, who lives in Bolton, England, and then this lady had proposed to the Bolton Interfaith Council to plant the kaki tree in Bolton. The Bolton Interfaith Council is an organization which promotes peace, mutual understanding and harmony between the people of different faith groups in Bolton. Mr Jonathan Adamson, who initiated the planting at Edgerton Cemetery on 26th March 2006, applied for another planting. Mr Adamson has been promoting the project in the area where he lives since the first planting in 2006 and has sent a number of letters introducing the Kaki Tree Project to more than a dozen neighboring schools and churches. Two places among those have expressed their keen interest in the project and the planting finally took place at Fylingdales Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School. Although two kaki trees were planted at Toride Daini Junior High School on 20th February 2004, one of them almost died. Mr and Mrs Tokuura, then PTA members, took a great care of the tree for 5 years at home and wonderfully revived the tree. It was their wish to plant this tree at an elementary school, which led to the planting at neighboring Terahara Elementary School. Mrs. Pieranna Venturell, mayor of the city of Gussago, signed a proposal for a public appeal for support for Hiroshima and Nagasaki in November 2008 and the city also supported a campaign “Future without nuclear weapons” from September 2007 until March 2008, which collected more than 60,000 signatures in Italy. The mayor serves as the chairperson of the “Council for peace and solidarity” of the city as well. Ristorante “Castello Malvezzi” is a very famous restaurant situated in the suburbs of Brescia. Ms. Enrica Bortolazzi, manager of the restaurant, took part in the tree planting ceremony held in the province of Brescia in 2008 and realized that this is a very meaningful project to convey the message of peace and to connect people or with younger generation. The tree planting at Ushiku 3rd Junior High School was realized because a city council member of Ushiku learned about the project when it took place at Toride Second Junior High School in the neighboring city and introduced the project to the city’s education board. Ushiku-City dispatches representatives of students from junior high schools in the city to Hiroshima as peace missionary. When they come back from Hiroshima, they present what they have learned about war and the atomic bomb at a reporting session called “Peace gathering in school” every year. The Bernard Buffet Museum in Shizuoka Prefecture is located on the Clematis no Oka (Hill of Clematis) and also close to the Vangi Sculpture Garden Museum. The museum has a Children’s Museum and not only families from the surrounding area but also families from the Kanto region make a little trip to visit here. As Cansorzio Travolo Della Pace Franciacorta – Monte Orfano took the lead in organizing, tree plantings at six municipalities in the Province of Brescia were realized and to round up a series of tree plantings that took place in the Province of Brescia, they organized a tree planting in the open space adjacent to Convento dell’ Annunciata. One of the sites was a park in the city of Castegnato, wherein Cansorzio Travolo Della Pace Franciacorta – Monte Orfano is based. The park lies adjacent to Scuola Primaria E. De Amicis and the nursing home for older people. One of the sites was Scuola Elementare Statele in the city of Leno. A welcoming mood was created at the primary school as they hung a big banner with a message “To the world without nuclear weapons” written on in Japanese and orange balloons from the ceiling as well as decorated with origami cranes. One of the sites was the nursing home for older people “Evaristo Almici” in the city of Rezzato. When Mr. Ebinuma and others arrived, a lot of people such as children from elementary and middle schools nearby and neighbors already gathered and gave them a big welcome together with the mayor of Rezzato. One of the sites was Scuola Media Statale “Leonardo da Vinci.” Prior to the tree planting ceremony, peace march started from Istituto Comprensivo “Don Milani.” Children from Milani Primary School hung handmade cards around the neck and all of them held a big flag with dimensions of about 30m x 20m, and marched through the city being led by policemen and following Mr. Ebinuma, who held the seedling, to the planting site.
