Planting Ceremony / Scuola Primaria “Don Remo Tonoli”

As Cansorzio Travolo Della Pace Franciacorta – Monte Orfano took the lead in organizing, tree plantings at six municipalities in the Province of Brescia were realized. One of the sites was Don Remo Tonoli Primary School in the town of Coccaglio. When Mr. Ebinuma and others arrived, children who were eating the school lunch at the cafeteria welcomed them with a big applause. Volunteers from the executive committee of “Ogaki Expo in 2000”, after 400 years from that battle. held in Ogaki City in 2000 set up the “O-kaki Project Executive Committee” and are promoting the Kaki Tree Project to elementary schools and junior high schools in Ogaki City. Exhibition “Life Connecting Tree of Hope – The Kaki Tree Project in Karako” The Maruki Gallery

December 22th, 2007 – March 29th, 2008 In conjunction with the tree planting on 26th February 2007 at Karako Primary School and that on 8th of March at Karako Central Park, the exhibition “Life Connecting Tree of Hope – The Kaki Tree Project in Karako” was held from 22nd of December 2007 through 29th of March 2008 at the Maruki Gallery for the Hiroshima Panels. 10th Anniversary / Sotoasahikawa Kindergarten

On 22nd April 1997, “two seedling of the bombed kaki trees” were planted in the kindergarten yard of Sotoasahikawa Kindergarten.  At that time, they also buried the time capsule which were to be opened 10 years after. Planting Ceremony / Jardins do Palacio de Cristal

The city of Porto, Portugal, has a sister city relationship with the city of Nagasaki since 1978. As a symbol of the sister city relationship and to remember the atomic bombing as well as to express its solidarity with the city of Nagasaki, the city of Porto applied for the project through the Japanese Embassy in Portugal. Jardins do Palacio de Cristal, the planting site, is the biggest garden in the city center and surrounded by the Sports Pavilion where concerts and sports games are held, Almeida Garrett Library and restaurants. Planting Ceremony / Puerto Rico Museum of Contemporary Art

Puerto Rico’s annual mean temperature is about 25 degrees Celsius and there is one rainy season and one dry season annually. The person who applied for the project was artist Ms. Elias Adasme Apablaza. As Ms. Elias took the lead, Puerto Rico Museum of Contemporary Art, Amnesty International Puerto Rico and several other cultural agencies cooperated and joined, and proceeded with the preparations for the tree planting to be held at the garden of the museum. 10th Anniversary / Former Ryuhoku Elementary School

On 5th of March 1996, the very first planting of “the seedling of the bombed kaki tree” took place in the schoolyard of then Ryuhoku Elementary School in Taito-ku, Tokyo. Children from the class 1 in the third grade participated in the event among others. Unfortunately, in March 2001, the elementary school closed and the tree was moved to the adjacent Ryuhoku Park thanks to then PTA members. Planting Ceremony / Bodensee

Kreuzlingen is a beautiful city located on the Bodensee, on the border with Germany, about 60 km away from Zurich. The person who applied for the project is Ms. Colina A. Blanco W., who learned about the Kaki Tree Project on the BBC website and discussed plans of workshop and planting site with her friend, Mr. Walter Bartschi. They asked the city of Kreuzlingen for their cooperation so the project was realized. The planting site is a vast garden of a mansion nestled along the Bodensee, which is now owned by the university, and the well-kept garden is under the management of the city of Kreuzlingen. Istituto Comprensivo “G.B. Niccolini” learned about the Kaki Tree Project from a person in Poggibonsi, Italy where the tree planting took place on 1st of April 2000 and they wanted to have the tree planted in their city as well, so Mr. Andrea Famiglietti, principal of the school, and Ms. Sonia Pieraccioni, project leader, applied for the project. Planting Ceremony / Yokohama Civic Art Gallery Azamino

As Mr. Shinichi Yano, art instructor at Kakinomi Kindergarten in Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture, where the tree planting took place on 13th of May 2005, introduced the project to Yokohama Civic Art Gallery Azamino Preparation Office, the project at Yokohama Civic Art Gallery Azamino was realized. The Civic Gallery which had just opened was huge and there was much traffic including children and people in the community. Mr. Jonathan Adamson of Place heard about the Kaki Tree Project from Mr. Bruce Allan, who organized the tree planting ceremony on 15th of March 2002 in Gloucester, UK, and applied for the project to be held at Nagasaki Hiroshima Memorial Site at Edgerton Cemetery Place has been promoting a monument at this memorial site on behalf of public institutions and has been active with the support from cemetery association of the local government. Planting Ceremony / Collingwood School

Collingwood School is a large private school with 1,100 students ages from 5 to 18 and 160 teaching staff. This is a sister school of Mulgrave School, where tree planting took place in 2003. Ms. Meghan McAlister, then a student at Collingwood School, heard about the tree planting at Mulgrave School from her friend and applied for the project on behalf of the school.
